Rebuilding the Louisiana Democratic Party starts with a vote on Saturday February 9th statewide for Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC) members and DPEC (Democratic Parish Executive Committee) members.

DSCC is comprised of one male and one female elected from each Legislative district in the State of Louisiana, or 210 members, as well as a number of members representing special interests at large.

DPEC are organized differently in each of the 64 parishes of the State of Louisiana, with Orleans Parish, (OPDEC) being the largest, with 70 members.  OPDEC membershipship is composed of 14 members from each of the 5 City Council Districts A,B,C,D,E.  Voters may select up to 14 members.

Other DPEC's are organized differently, often with one elected Chairman appointing the remaining seats on the DPEC.

Both DSCC and DPEC seats are on the ballot on February 9th, and all registered Democrats will choose Party leadership.

Since March 2004, LaRoots has encourage participation in the party leadership structure and will feature efforts statewide to invigorate the party.

There will be special emphasis on OPDEC because of the unprecedented interest in government that has been shown since the Katrina Disaster.  The number of candidates has never been higher in these 5 districts.

District A has 24 candidates and 14 have joined to form "A" Reform Ticket.
